Moonbeam Awards!

Last weekend I had the very awesome opportunity to attend the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards in Traverse City, Michigan as a medalist.

I haven't been to Traverse City since I was a kid, so I was excited to visit-- it is honestly one of my favorite places in Michigan, and possibly the most beautiful. A family friend graciously let me stay at her cottage on the shore of Elk Lake, which is GORGEOUS (clear, sparkling, see-through water!), and downtown was surprisingly bustling with activity considering tourist season is over. The weather was wonderful, too!

But the best part of the trip was, of course, the awards ceremony. The first person I met was Amy Shamroe, the Moonbeam Book Awards Coordinator, and she was also the first person I've encountered (outside of friends and family and the internet) who had read Saving June and had glowing things to say! My ears, they are still burning.

First there was a cocktail hour for socializing/eating/drinking, and then the actual awards ceremony started. It was a great experience to hear from other authors and the stories behind their books.

Saving June won Gold in the Young Adult - Mature Issues category, which meant I got to go up and give a little acceptance speech myself!

Now I'm a writer, not a public speaker, and I didn't plan ahead what I was going to say, so I don't even remember exactly what I said up there. But I didn't die, which is the most important part! I'm going to assume I didn't make too much a fool out of myself since I was neither booed nor laughed off stage, so I'm chalking it up to a rousing success.

And I got a shiny medal!

In all seriousness, I'm unbelievably honored and humbled to be the recipient of this award-- I never expected anything like it, and I have hung the medal up on my desk where I can admire it to my heart's content. Thanks again to the Jenkins Group for honoring Saving June this way!

Congratulations on your success! I just want to tell you that I just finished your book in one sitting. I love every page! It was hard to put down. I love Harper's sarcastic voice, the witty banter between her and Jake, and how every character has a personality that readers can relate to. All in all, I will be waiting for your next book. I am a fan.:D

Hannah, I just finished reading Saving June, and I can't tell you how much I loved it. I'm an aspiring writer myself and have trouble believing that I'll be able to evoke emotion and feeling like you and other authors I admire. I can't wait to read more of what you plan to write, if you chose to that is. I'd love for any advice you have. My email is Fearlessrioter6@gmail.com. Thanks, and well done :D

Those who possess a nice home along with a quality income are certainly not commonly identified for the 100 % free sites. When they is unable to afford to help subscribe to a site then you certainly ought to question precisely why in case this particular human being is for coach online factory you. I know that I have spoken to people who tell me they cannot afford to pay to join a website for dating and they then go on to tell me they have no job, they cannot afford a phone, they cannot afford to http://coachfactoryoutlet2w.webs.com/ take someone out, they go to a charity shop to buy their clothes and so on. This is fine if this is your lifestyle to but for people who have a better lifestyle there is no need to get involved.A word of warning for females only. Women should beware of the men who want to rush them into meeting very quickly, they will get lots of such offers, usually from people who have a lot to hide or who are not fussy about who they spend time with. The chances are that the guy who is in a huge rush to meet you was saying the same thing to another woman an hour ago and a different one this morning. Either they are extremely cheap coach factory backpacks lonely and longing for some company - in which case wonder why - or they are simply not bothered about what you are like or your personality or how compatible you are, which makes the either very stupid, married, only seeking a quick fling or desperate.
You have to you should definitely have voiced to help these individuals regarding ages prior to satisfy as well as on the internet nevertheless for the cell phone far too. You can find thousands of internet sites offering dating services, the majority are tailor designed to match individual wants, such as internet dating to the over 40s, internet dating intended for lesbians, internet dating intended for very large outlet coach factory people, dating for nudists, which makes it easier and easier to make sure that you join the sites that suit your needs rather than wasting money and time on ones that do not. Word of warning - keep your feet on the ground, some of these tailor made sites are pandering to people who fantasise, such as the ones that offer women the chance to date a good looking, young, millionaire. Millionaires do join such sites but you will find coach factory online that most of the members on such sites are the needy poor women wanting to meet them. The sites that are specifically for people wanting casual sex and for married people wanting secret liaisons are usually frequented by men and they tend to become very disappointed when they find out that most of the other members are men like themselves.

They are a good investment. For the price of a few drinks you could end up with a fantastic partner. A lot of the paid for sites are very good and do not cost much. coach outlet She looked great (she wore a tiny tank dress accessorized with, natch, a white Fendi belt and black Fendi pumps), she sounded amazing, and coach factory outlet online she even tried her hand at a bit of stand-up. Referring to a spot on her face, she told the audience, “I thought I had the mumps—do you have mumps in France?” A sampling of her other one-liners: “How long is fashion week? A week? Ah, thank you. I don’t know these things,” and, “I don’t think there’s any point in having taste unless it’s bad taste.” Her performance—which was described by Karl Lagerfeld as “effortless—what coach factory a talent!”—included about a dozen songs. And she seemed to have a good time singing them. She thanked the audience for having coach factory her and Fendi for booking her, and then she asked for more “gigs,” including birthday parties or weddings. “Actually, not weddings,” she amended, deciding she’s not right for romantic fare. “But if you are getting married, congratulations. Book Mika.”—Derek Blasberg

“It’s a hard night to compete,” joked Laura Freedman from the courtyard of the Brentwood Country Mart last night as the one-year anniversary celebration for her jewelry store, coach factory outlet online Broken English, went head to head with the Chanel opening across town. Brooke Shields and Gregory Parkinson made appearances, joining guests for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and the premiere of coach factory online a short film entitled coach factory “Parmi coach outlet online Les Vivants” (“Among the coach factory outlet Living”), screened on vintage television sets. “It’s an embodiment of youth culture,” explained Freedman, who co-produced the Godard-inspired tale of four bandits who break into a jewelry coach factory outlet store. Not that anything like that happened last night—rather than grabbing anything from the window, departing guests, bags of take-home cookies in hand, politely inquired as to prices. “That one is about $14,000,” responded Freedman to a query about a gold and opal cuff.—Linlee AllenPhoto: Linlee Allen

According to her handlers, Paris Hilton’s cunningly titled documentary, Paris, Not France (get it?), will reveal the “businesswoman and human being” behind the public figure. But we thought this was a documentary. New York fashion week is holding out for a hero. No offense to designers coach outlet store who thought they were already pretty good. Americans 1, British 0. The word on the store party circuit is that tonight’s Fendi’s retail reopening is going to be big. Big, we tell coach outlet you! We have it on good intelligence that Jessica Alba, Sofia Coppola, Kanye West, Claudia Schiffer, Dita Von Teese, Jade Jagger, and Milla Jovovich coach outlet have all agreed to attend the party hosted by Bernard Arnault, coach factory Karl Lagerfeld, Silvia Venturini Fendi, and Michael Burke. And the showstopper? Amy Winehouse has promised to take the stage and perform at 10:30 p.m. (there’s also a rumor she’s going to take her act to Louis Vuitton—for a $1 million fee). This wouldn’t be the first time Lagerfeld coach factory has professed his love for the beehived singer—his Chanel pre-fall show in London in December drew coach factory on her savebigshopping.com disheveled brand of glamour. But as we all know, Winehouse isn’t the most reliable woman in pop, and not many people are counting on her showing up. Here’s hoping.—Derek BlasbergPhoto: Beretta/Sims/Rex USA

When Michelle Obama worked the Manhattan social circuit in June, notably being the guest of an honor at a fundraiser at Calvin Klein’s West Village pad, more than one rumor made the rounds about her sartorial relationship with Vogue editor at large André Leon Talley. Was he the unofficial adviser on her campaign look? Would he take her under the wings of his giant Chanel cape as he has other high profile African-American women, like Jennifer Hudson and the Williams sisters? We caught up with Talley coach outlet store online atMichael’s —his local haunt—and got the real story. “That was the first time I connected with Michelle Obama, and let me go on record saying that I have never, ever given her any advice on what to wear,” he proclaimed about the event he hosted with Anna Wintour and Shelby Bryan at Klein’s, which raised $1million for the Obama for America organization. “To put the record straight, I think that Michelle Obama does not need advice.” He coach outlet factory online revealed that he had no involvement in choosing the Isabel Toledo gownshe wore to Klein’s dinner, nor did he find the $148 Donna Ricco dress, bought at her local White House/Black Market shop, which she wore to co-host “The View,” but he was in full support of both choices. Elaborating on the topic, which Talley is prone to do, he added coach outlet that he’s most impressed withthe Chicago resident’s chic sophistication, à la Jackie O. “But it’s not about Jackie Kennedy being a woman of privilege. She has, in many ways, taken some of Jackie’s elements of simplicity, elegant restraint, three strands of bubble-gum pearls, the flip of hair, solid colors, simple lines, and clothes—and it’s working for her. It’s been a week of family love and war in London: Erdem Moralioglu coach factory of Erdem has savebigshopping.com been singing his twin sister’s praises whenever possible; Christopher and Tammy Kane were, as usual, inseparable; and Mulberry designer Stuart Vevers’ cousin, Jonathan Kelsey, showed a capsule collection of shoes he designed for the brand on Thursday. Then there’s the not-so-nice stuff. savebigshopping.com Earlier this week, Ossie Clark’s sons sought legal advice on how to reclaim their father’s name (in case you’ve been living in coach outlet online a cave, the line has been revived, with designer Avsh Alom Gur at the creative helm) in order to prevent its “continued unauthorized exploitation.” And one of the city’s preeminent http://savebigshopping.com/ jewelers, Theo Fennell, abruptly quit the family firm after 26 years. Designers’ fascination with the eighties is taking many forms, some obvious, others less so. The Krizia animal sweater may be a rare breed that’s unfamiliar to all but the most devoted collector, but it’s a look that resonated for coach outlet Fall. For more than 20 years, Mariuccia Mandelli selected a different critter to feature in her collection; in 1981, it was a cat. This season, wild coach outlet store ones roared their way down the runways at Eley Kishimoto and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, while domesticated felines purred at Paul & Joe and Zero + Maria Cornejo. Even Miuccia Prada got into the act at Miu Miu, where the graphic pattern of a dress evoked tiger skin. And The Winners Are…Pants And Hats style file Style.com
Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepoel nabbed the three prizes last night at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, but the evening also featured a couple of prevalent looks, which we’d like to think of as winners in their own right. The first is the pant—particularly one that’s carrot-shaped and cropped—a trend coach outlet which reached critical mass at the Spring collections in various forms. The covered-leg crew included Juliette Lewis in a coach factory outlet sequined Phillip Lim jumpsuit, Chanel Iman in Daughters gray flannel, Agyness Deyn in a boyish tux, Liya Kebede in Proenza Schouler, Jessica Joffe in Helmut Lang, and Thelma Golden and Rachel coach outlet Roy. With Swanepoel as a clearly worthy contender, it’s logical that millinery would also make a strong showing. Of course there was the designer’s own date, Coco Rocha, but joining her were Julie Gilhart in a jaunty mini top hat by Eugenia Kim, John Galliano in a daisy-strewn top hat, Deyn in a flattened boater from Marc Jacobs’ Spring show, and André Leon Talley in what looks like a very stylish evening hunting cap. Honorable mention goes to the one-shoulder dress, seen on Vogue‘s Meredith Melling Burke (in Peter Som) and Virginia Smith, and Style.com’s Candy Pratts Price, in Givenchy.—Meenal Mistry  Photo: Billy Farrell/PatrickMcMullan.com

alien residents style file Style.com
Like E.T. pretending to be a toy in Drew Barrymore’s closet, Patricia Piccinini’s sweet alien sculptures seem to be trying to blend into our machine age surroundings—at least sometimes. At Robert Miller’sbooth for the 2006 Berlin Art Forum fair, coach outlet online her sculpture of a woman thrown off balance by the alien creature hugging her face embodied every artist’s wish that his or her vision coach factory might affix itself to coach factory outlet online spectatorsand alter their whole worldview. For her current show at Yvon Lambert New York, the Australian-born savebigshopping.com Piccinini offers a group coach factory of cute anthropomorphic machines. But look past the glossy paint and cool metal, and a sleek, chic Vespa parked next to a shiny pink mini sidecar starts to resemble a mother animal protectively peering at its child. And two little mini machines curled up around each other take on the aspect of kittens cuddling. In this work, the savebigshopping.com cuteness comes undiluted, and the message remains the same as E.T.’s benediction: We should all “Beeee Goood” to whatever is around us.—Ana Finel HonigmanPhoto: Patricia Piccinini, “Nest,” 2006, courtesy of Yvon Lambert New York
